For our 5th wedding anniversary, my husband and I are treating ourselves to something luxurious – the Equani Spa at Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa. I got the idea when I was in a wedding party a couple of years ago. As bridesmaids, we had gathered at Equani Spa and had facials and hair and makeup services. Until that day, I had never been to a spa so thoroughly inspiring with its naturalized décor, amazing therapists and aestheticians, relaxation areas inside and out and healthy foods and smoothies. I made a promise to return.
Equani Spa is inspired by the ancestral Cherokee of these lands. The exterior reveals a lodge-style motif featuring stone and natural timbers. The interior is richly drawn with hand-crafted decorative elements, custom millwork, fireplaces and peaceful treatment rooms. The scents of therapeutic oils offer serenity upon entering.
Our anniversary is in late February. That means unpredictable weather. But we have no fear, because Equani Spa will be nearby! We are going to beat the winter blues by indulging in some earned “we” time. I’m looking forward to bringing our swimwear and feeling the tensions melt away in the spa’s thermal pool.

I am beginning with a Marine Masque Manicure and Pedicure: Marine botanicals and sea salts energize with quartz crystals and menthol cooling to refresh and revitalize – like a barefoot walk on the sand.
While my mani-pedi is underway, my husband is having a Men’s URTH Facial: A clarifying and cleansing facial that leaves the skin hydrated with minimum shine and improved skin tone. Organic men’s products are used containing antioxidants and frankincense that are ideal for all skin types.
After we relax in the warm waters and sauna, and have a bite to eat from the Spa’s healthy menu of charcuterie boards, smoothies, coffee and teas, even wine for a cheers, we will resume our treatments with the grand couples’ massage called Integrative Deep Tissue, a highly therapeutic full-body massage using a variety of advanced massage techniques with deeper and more direct pressure on specific muscle groups.
The Equani Spa property also features an outdoor labyrinth, which guides a walking meditation or prayer exercise. You’ll follow a single path that winds back and forth, moving toward and away from the center. Labyrinths are like a metaphor for life.
