Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa is truly special. The 503-acre resort property is part of the ancestral lands of the Cherokee. Advisors with the Cherokee joined with others in the building of the resort and its amenities so as not to impact natural resources or sites of archaeological significance – you can feel this vibe in Equani Spa more serenely. You can also check out the history of this place in the lower floor lobby of the lodge. When we head up next week, we’ll be doing scheduled and unscheduled things, by design. The random parts:

  • Some of us will work out in the state-of-the-art fitness center.
  • We are bringing rackets to play tennis.
  • The kids are going to love fishing in the pond and stream on the property, where complimentary equipment is loaned from the Emporium at the lodge.
  • Directly from the lodge, you can hike along 9 miles of wilderness trails into the Chattahoochee National Forest.

The scheduled parts:

  • A birthday party at the stables! The adults are engaging in an axe-throwing exercise while the kids – who are six years and younger – enjoy hand-led horseback rides in the facility’s riding ring.
  • Four of us have reserved a tee time and golf cart to play on the 18-hole course. For me, this course wins on the views. And a lot of people agree.

Did you know? The Stables at Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa establishes the property as the only full-service resort and conference hotel in the North Georgia Mountains to offer horseback trail-riding experiences along five miles of trails with incredible valley and mountain ridge views. If you are comfortable with horses, beginners and advanced riders can register for one- or two-hour tours with an equestrian instructor who accompanies you. You’ll be amazed at how strong the horse is (and how they love to sneak grassy clump treats) as you meander through open fields, hardwood forests and trout streams – up and down gentle elevations. With so much to do onsite, we’ll have to challenge ourselves to explore the towns of Young Harris and Hiawassee – an easy thing to consider, knowing that wineries are nearby producing award-winning wines, and live music is all around us. Spring Break, here we come!
